Veterans

Joe Sales' Jacket
Joe Sales
On Thursday, October 22, 2010 two veterans, Jim Cooper and Joe Sales, came to talk to us about what it was like for them to serve in the military. We had a very good time with them. Some group members asked the questions and some took videos. Both of the men said that the hardest part was leaving their families and friends. We learned a lot from their interesting information.

Fire Safety Day!

Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd graders all gathered in the mini gym for Fire Safety Day the first week in October.  Everyone learned what to do in case of a fire and to never play with matches.  Firemen took all students outside and taught them all about the fire trucks and equipment. The kids had a magnificent time learning and are grateful to the fire fighters for their time and teaching us how to be safe!

If you walked or rode your bike to school you received a “Walk to School “wrist -band! What a great way to exercise!  Kids got great exercise AND helped the world go green by preventing exhaust  pollution from every car that transports kids to school every day! Keep up the good work!

Zoo Academy

On October 1, Zoo Academy presented to the 6th graders in the mini gym.  They had prepared 4 stations, Tundra, Ocean, Jungles, and Healthy Habits. The students participated in hands-on activities like trying to tie your shoes with no thumbs. They learned about the diet of a shark, a gorilla, and a giraffe. They also learned how the Henry Doorly Zoo identifies their penguins.

Owl Pellets

6th graders dissected owl pellets on September 27th. 6th grade students are currently learning about ecosystems and how they work. They identified bones and hypothesized what animals the owl might eat. Some found skulls from a small rodent while others found the jaw of a bird. The students separated the bones from the fur in a hands-on experiment during Science class.

The Soybean Lady

The 4th grade students learned all about what we grow and how it gets turned into goods. They worked on worksheets, answered questions, and did fun activities! These are the people that taught them all they learned.

Kindergarten news!!!!!

One of the kindergarden teachers, Mrs. Moran has been on maternity leave. We helped them celebrate her arrival back!

Last week we went in and made a welcome back sign with the kindergardeners’ traced hands. On Monday September 20 we helped present it to Mrs. Moran. She was happy to see the poster but we gave her something she liked better that Wednesday.

The 3 of us made her a welcome back power point too! She was delighted to see that. We had a fun time and hopefully so did Mrs. Moran!

Read all about 1st grade art

On Monday, Sep. 6th Mrs. Patten’s 1st grade class started drawing pictures of landscapes with glue.  After interviewing several 1st graders, we found that trees and hills were common in their landscapes. Ryan was first to start outlining with his glue, bold white against his dark, black, pencil covered paper. Ethan’s picture stood out from the rest having a bridge in the corner. I think that Lauren’s also stood out of the crowd because she boldly put a hiker in the middle of  her picture.
